If you are unable to login to WordPress after upgrading to 2.6 and above, please follow the steps in the included links, this is a issue with cookies and not WPAU.

This seems to be a known issue with a upgrade to WordPress for some sites, are you using Firefox? If so please try another browser. You can check the following links to learn more and trouble shoot the issue.

It is basically related to cookies, try these out

This did not work for me. Any other suggestions? I also switched browsers from Firefox to IE that didn't work either.

I installed the WPAU plugin for the first time a few weeks ago and love it! I've been waiting for something like this for some time. Thanks!

A couple weeks after upgrading WP from 2.5 to 2.6.1 via WPAU, I too got the endless login redirect loop. Disabling the WPAU plugin worked for me, though i have a feeling it's not the root cause.

Here's a quick recap of my experience:

Cleared cache and removed cookies -- FAIL (both in FF3 and Safari)
wp-login.php?action=logout, destroyed php session, and repeated step 1 -- FAIL
        Edited wp-config.php: removed SECRET_KEY, added AUTH_KEY, SECURE_AUTH_KEY, and LOGGED_IN_KEY; and repeated step 1 -- FAIL
Disabled WPAU and repeated step 1 -- SUCCESS!

    My server setup

    • blog path http://mywebsite.com/blog/
    • PHPSESSIDs are being forced to cookies
    • WP version: 6.2.1
    • WPAU Stable tag: 1.2.2
    • Other activated plugins: Viper's Video QuickTags

I did a lot of searching on the issue, here's my observations

    • most fixes revolved around deactivation of plugins or clearing caches
    • troublesome plugins mentioned were WPAU and out-of-date Akismet
    • for some people, all browsers were affected, and for others, only some were affected
    • a number of people, including myself, were able to login to WP 2.6.1 and write posts after the upgrade. For others, the login problems happened immediately after upgrade.

Thank you for your help, Isaac. I will try those things. If my friend ever lets me touch his blog again.

I hate to ask what may be a really stupid question, but...

... How do you disable the plugin if you can't login to the Dashboard?

    Thanks.

Alright, the same thing happened to me as the above people.

    --------------------------------------------
After the "Congratulations! All the files have been upgraded to the latest version. Please CLICK HERE TO COMPLETE THE FINAL STEP." came out, I was forwarded to a log-in screen where only the [USERNAME] was available. When I typed in my password it would just re-direct to itself over and over again.
    --------------------------------------------

I have tried upgrading 2.6.1 to 2.6.2 with WP Automatic Upgrade.

I backed up the SQL file and when I got into the same mess as some of the above users, I immediately tried to revert back to the old database. However, the problem still lingers!

I then manually tried to upload the WordPress upgrade files onto my server and tried overwrite the WP Automatic Upgrade files that uploaded previously but that still doesn't work!

The problem exists in all of my browsers (Firefox, Opera and Internet Explorer) even with the cookies reset each time I tried to change the password.

I went into phpMYadmin, changed my admin password there and then selected MD5 in the drop down menu. It didn't work. I put in the new password and I just get the WP log in screen again and again.

I have tried the last resort Emergency Password Changer created by village idiot. However, the password that I created using this script did not work either.

What the hell is wrong with my installation? Can someone please shed some light on my errors? Thank you!

Also, as gbrettmiller has asked, how can you disable the plugin if you can't even log in?
